Ecotourism Kenya

Kenya has one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world. It’s large wildlife reserves and unique landscape has made it an extremely popular destination for Ecotourism. Kenya however has come under threat by over exploitation of it’s natural resources.

Tourism has been guilty of contributing to this mess by wasteful and intrusive practices. Hoever, with the introduction of Ecotourism, Kenya is seeing a reversal of this trend. Ecotourism attempts to give back to the country what has been taken from it. This means that travellers not only try and leave absolutely no traces of their presence, they also actively engage in promoting the culture and environment.

There are several programs where ecotourism requires travelers to learn some new skills (like making paper from dung!) or engage in community activities like visiting schools.

Ecotourism in Kenya has been a major initiative by the Kenyan government to help improve and promote what is called Sustainable Tourism, which means the ability to derive income streams from tourism without harming the environment. The development of Eco lodges has been a positive step in this direction, where the hotels and lodges attempt to minimize their impact on their surroundings.

Ecotourism in Kenya will continue to grow at a rapid pace since there is so much scope for improvement.
